Welcome to the website of Comber and District U3A.
We are part of the wider u3a movement across the U.K., which caters for people who are no longer in full time employment but who wish to remain active and keep learning and having fun. Hence the u3a strap line of Learn, Laugh, Live. We are a registered charity and a self help organisation, offering a range of groups which are led by members for members. Our group activities range from bridge, languages, food and photography to play reading, walking, tai chi and technology. ( see details of forthcoming activities on the right hand side). They offer the opportunity to share your enthusiasms and skills with others while learning new things and above all making new friends.
In addition to nearly 30 member led groups we also have a monthly meeting for all our members, on the last Monday of the month. In normal times this is held in the hall of First Comber Presbyterian Church and features a guest speaker and the opportunity for members to meet together over a cup of tea. We have also organised various local weekends away and continental holidays.

Bob Salisbury – ‘Field of Dreams’
In his book Field of Dreams Bob Salisbury, ( knighted in 1998 for his service to education), tells how he and his wife Rosemary came back to Co Tyrone and set about building a home on a fifteen acre site. Over the next sixteen years they transformed this rural wasteland into one of Ireland’s most famous and beautiful wildlife gardens. This is a really inspirational story.

Lucy Allen – ‘ Highs and Lows of a Stuntwoman’s life’
Lucy Allen is a stunt woman and public speaker. She has worked on many films including Skyfall, Braveheart and Titanic. She also worked as a double for Helena Bonham Carter’s character Bellatric Lestrange in the last four Harry Potter films. Lucy shares her often scary and hilarious experiences and tells of the physical and mental challenges of putting her life on the line.

Stephen Wells- A study in Sherlock. The story of Sherlock Holmes.
Stephen is a professional entertainer and speaker who lives in Yorkshire and is a member of the Magic Circle and Actor’s Equity. He has given talks to many varied groups across the UK and frequently appeared for Cunard, P&O andViking Cruises. He also has many Radio and TV credits to his name and has appeared at numerous theatres.
Stephen’s talk looks at how Conan Doyle created the character of Sherlock Holmes in 1887 and the many actors who have played Sherlock over the years. This illustrated talk contains rare archive material which will give an insight into how this world famous fictional detective has fascinated people for over a 130 years.
