COMBER AND DISTRICT U3A RAMBLERS WALKING GROUP
The last walk for Comber U3A Ramblers was on Monday 3 September 2018 when the Ramblers walked from Bank Lane car park in Bangor to Groomsport and on round to Orlock Point.
The next walk is scheduled for Monday 17 September and will be the Drumee walk which is a pleasant walk starting and finishing in Castlewellan. The walk will be led by Hill Wilson whose mobile phone number is 07985 628482.
It is a circular walk of about 6 miles. It will be on bridal ways and minor roads with a short distance on a main road. The path is generally in good condition and is a mixture of tarmac and beaten earth. The bridal ways may be muddy if there has been heavy rain. The return leg of the walk is mainly uphill but on an easy slope.
You are advised to bring a lunch and drink and we will have a refreshment stop at Maghera Old Church and Round Tower.
As always sturdy shoes or walking boots are recommended. Walking poles are unlikely to be necessary but bring them if you have them.
We will meet at 10.30 at the car park in Comber beside the Leisure Centre to share cars to the start OR at 11.30 in the Square in Castlewellan (directions given below).
Return to Comber is anticipated about 4.00.
Those who have not already done so (for this season’s walks) will be required to sign a disclaimer form before commencing the walk. Copies will be available at the start.
It is desirable, particularly if you are planning to meet the group at Castlewellan, that you let Hill Wilson know of your intention to go on the walk.
As always you are advised to check your E-Mail on Sunday night in case a change has had to be made to the details of the walk.
If you no longer wish your name to be kept on the Ramblers walking list please advise and it will be removed.
Directions to start
Take the A24 road in the direction of Newcastle. Shortly after passing the roundabout at Clough turn right on to the Castlewellan Road/A25 and follow it into Castlewellan. We will start the walk in the Upper Square just across the road from the entrance (on the right) into Castlewellan Forest Park.
Hope you are able to go on the walk: Eddie Bell
