COMBER AND DISTRICT U3A RAMBLER’S WALKING GROUP
The last Comber U3A Ramblers’ walk was on Monday 19 February 2018 when 14 of us had a pleasant walk around the periphery of the Sir Thomas & Lady Dixon Park and along part of the Lagan Towpath finishing with refreshments in the local coffee shop.
The next Comber U3A Ramblers’ walk is scheduled for Monday 5 March 2018 when the route will be from the Lock Keeper’s Cottage to the Giant’s Ring and return. The walk will be led by Dave Kildea and Bob Bell whose mobile phone numbers are respectively 07725 618897 and 07764 512169.
It is an enjoyable walk of about 5 miles along part of the Lagan Towpath and around part of the property of both the National Trust and the Lagan Valley Regional Park. The walk is almost all off-road. It is a mainly flat walk with no major gradients although there are sections with gradual ascents and descents. A bridge with an estimated 20 steps up and down has to be crossed. The path is a mixture of tarmac, concrete, beaten earth and grass so parts may be muddy.
We will meet at 1.00 at the car park in Comber beside the Leisure Centre to share cars to the start OR at 1.35 in the car park for the Lock Keeper’s Cottage. Directions to the start are given below.
Can I remind those sharing cars that it is the practice that the passengers make a contribution to the driver to cover costs.
Return to Comber before 5.00 is anticipated.
As always it is suggested walking boots or sturdy shoes are worn and waterproof clothing carried if you have them. Carrying some food and drink is always recommended although it is not intended to stop for refreshments other than at the end of the walk. Walking Poles are considered optional.
Those who have not already done so will be required to sign a disclaimer form before the walk. Copies will be available at the start.
The weather prediction for Monday 5 March is for the possibility of light rain and moderate winds but we need to be conscious that the Beast from the East or one of his colleagues may still be around so you are strongly advised to check your E-Mail on Sunday night in case a change becomes necessary.
